Physics Laboratory

The Physics Laboratory of TTU was established on July, 2011 – before the first opening of school year of TTU. Two laboratories were set up, namely the Laboratory for Mechanics and the Laboratory for Electricity and Magnetism. These Laboratories were carefully selected to meet the international standards with the aim on the real applications in Science and Engineering problems.

All the equipment of two Physics Laboratories at TTU were provided by LD-DIDACTIC (http://www.ld-didactic.de/) company (Germany), one of the most well-known providers for the Laboratory equipment in Science and Engineering such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Photonics, etc., in the world.

Each Physics Laboratory at TTU consists of 9 experiments (18 experiments in total), each of which was selected in such a way that it can be set up and carried out in different ways corresponding to different physics phenomena.

Experiments in Laboratory for Mechanics

  • Measuring lengths, volume, and density;
  • Determining the gravitational constant with the gravitation torsion balance after Cavendish – Recording the excursion and evaluating the measurement with IR position detector and PC;
  • Path-time diagram of straight motion – Recording and evaluating with VideoCom;
  • One-dimensional motions on the linear air track: Confirming Newton’s first and second laws for linear motions – Recording and evaluating with VideoCom;
  • Conservation of linear momentum: Newton’s third law and laws of collision – Recording and evaluating with VideoCom;
  • Conservation of angular momentum in elastic and inelastic rotational collisions;
  • Free fall: Recording and evaluating with VideoCom;
  • Simple and compound pendulum: Oscillations of a rod pendulum;
  •  Wavelength and sound velocity: Determining the velocity of sound in air as function of temperature.

Experiments in Laboratory for Electricity and Magnetism  

  • Coulomb’s law: Confirming Coulomb’s law – Recording and evaluating with CASSY;
  • Plate capacitor: Determining the capacitance of a plate capacitor – Measuring the charge with electrometer amplifier;
  • Ohm’s law: Verifying Ohm’s law and measuring specific resistances;
  • Kirchhoff’s laws: Measuring current and voltage at resistors connected in parallel and in series;
  • Circuits with electrical measuring instruments;
  • Biot-Savart’s law: Measuring the magnetic field of a straight conductor, air coil, and a pair of coils in the Helmholtz configuration;
  • Measuring the earth’s magnetic field: Measuring the earth’s magnetic field with a rotating induction coil (earth inductor);
  • Electromagnetic oscillator circuit: Free electromagnetic oscillations and de-damping of electromagnetic oscillations through inductive three-point coupling;
  • Electric generators: Generating AC (DC) voltage using a revolving-field (stationary-field) generator and generating voltage with an AC-DC generator.
